The ultimate reference clock generator, MUTEC REF10 SE120, once again impresses discerning audio professionals. Sascha Stojanovic, experienced audio engineer and founder of MIX GUARDS, tested the high-end clock in his studio and shares his impressive results.
Sascha Stojanovic, experienced audio engineer and founder of MIX GUARDS, supports music producers and mixing engineers in enhancing their productions. With extensive knowledge in analog and digital signal processing, he runs a high-end studio equipped with high-end A/D and D/A converters as well as monitoring systems from ATC and Trinnov. Recently, he tested the MUTEC REF10 SE120 in his demanding setup.
I never thought I'd be writing a love letter to a clock generator :-)
For his test, Sascha Stojanovic re-clocked previous mixes with the REF10 SE120 and compared the results in blind tests. The changes were impressive: the re-clocked mixes with the REF10 SE120 felt more relaxed
and more linear
. The sound image was cleaner, more effortless, and displayed increased loudness. Individual instruments, especially in groups like brass, were more distinctly perceptible - a result Stojanovic describes as insane
.
The bass range also benefits significantly, sounding bigger
and tighter
. Transients are emphasized, and the decay, or gradual fading, remains audible for longer, resulting in a more vibrant listening experience. He describes the character of the re-clocked mixes as particularly dynamic
. The reference clock generator brings emotion and movement to his productions.
Stojanovic, whose son is also training to become a sound engineer, describes the experience as a masterclass and is excited to expand his studio with the MUTEC REF10 SE120:
What an experience. My next investment!
