The Right Cable with 50 Ohms Characteristic Impedance

This MUTEC PSC 50 BNC/BNC coaxial cable guarantees a characteristic impedance of 50 ohms. It is perfectly suited for transmitting 10 MHz clock signals between a MUTEC REF series master clock and external devices with an impedance of 50 ohms. Such an impedance can be found in the following clock receiving devices: D/A converter, streamer, network switch, CD player.

This Prime Select cable from MUTEC is available in two lengths: 0.75 or 1.0 meter. Please choose your cable as short as possible to minimize signal loss and interference.

Properly Connected: the 50 Ohms Version

The technically accurate cable is a very relevant factor to experience the quality of MUTEC components in the best possible way. We have therefore decided to develop our own cable series.

With Prime Select Cables (PSC), you can be sure that devices from MUTEC – but also components of other manufacturers – will achieve their full potential. During development, all coaxial cables of the Prime Select category have been measured exclusively by MUTEC’s developers and tested on MUTEC equipment for compatibility and quality.

In addition to three versions with 75 ohms characteristic impedance, we also offer this variant with 50 ohms characteristic impedance. Terminated on both sides with one BNC connector each. It is the right choice to connect clock receiving devices with 50 ohms impedance directly to a 10 MHz reference master clock.

50 Ohms Characteristic Impedance

A significant number of clock-receiving digital audio components do not carry the established impedance of 75 ohms*. Rather, these are designed for a 50 ohms impedance. It is essential to take this into account. Common 75 ohms cables cannot guarantee an optimal transmission of the 10 MHz reference clock to a 50 ohms clock input. This is why MUTEC offers the PSC 50 BNC/BNC. It guarantees a constant characteristic impedance of 50 ohms* between input and output. This is determined not only by the cable material, but also by the connector. Both must ensure the required 50 ohms all the way through. Reflections within the cable, which can cause unsteady delivery of the data packets (= jitter), have to be prevented. This problem is avoided with this MUTEC coaxial cable. A characteristic impedance of 50 ohms is guaranteed.

Please note*: For proper connection of devices with a 75 ohms impedance used in their reference clock or word clock transmission, we offer a separate cable: PSC 75 BNC/BNC.


Double Shielding

The cable material of the MUTEC PSC 50 BNC/BNC is double shielded by a coated copper foil in combination with a copper braiding. By means of a low-loss PE-LCC dielectric, low attenuation is achieved. A 19-core stranded wire of low-oxygen copper acts as the conductor. With a diameter of 7.3 mm, the cable is slim, flexible and yet robust.


High Quality 50 Ohms Connectors

As BNC connector MUTEC uses the product of a German special manufacturer with decades of long-term experience. The mechanically extremely robust full metal connectors are hard gold-plated in the contact area, providing a constant contact pressure over their entire lifespan and meet the required characteristic impedance of 50 ohms with low return loss.
